Planetary Motion

Each planet rotates the Sun at a particular speed, gaining and losing light, power and visibility. Below are dates for each planet’s retrograde and direct motion in 2023, as well as Cazimi and Achronychal phases, and New & Full Moon’s and eclipses. The dates are based in Nth American EST/EDT, so they may differ for your location, but only by a day. The zodiacal degrees will not be affected.

RETROGRADE & DIRECT MOTION 2023

Every planet except the Sun and Moon move in what appears to be retrograde, or backward, motion. During this period of time, the influence of that planet is compromised, adjusted and areas of life correlated to that planet are up for review and rearrangement.

SD = Station Direct
SRx = Station Retrograde

CAZIMI

Every year, each planet moves through the Sun in its cyclic rotation. This process is known as Cazimi: The funeral pyre in a planet’s life cycle. Burnt up by the Sun, the purging initiates an ending, simultaneously releasing a new life cycle for that planet.

Mercury D refers to Mercury in direct motion. Mercury Rx refers to Mercury in retrograde motion.

ACHRONYCAL PHASE

As Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune & Pluto release from the Cazimi – Combustion phase, they move into retrograde motion where they are at their brightest. When in direct opposition to the Sun, and closest to Earth, planets change phase from rising before the Sun to rising after. This is another significant point in a planet’s cycle that only occurs for planets Mars out to Pluto. The opposition, Achronycal Phase, dates are listed below with the degrees of the planet noted (not the degree of the Sun):

JULY
21st – Sun opposite Pluto 29* Capricorn

AUGUST
27th – Sun opposite Saturn 3* Pisces

SEPTEMBER
19th – Sun opposite Neptune 26* Pisces

NOVEMBER
3rd – Sun opposite Jupiter 10* Taurus
13th – Sun opposite Uranus 21* Taurus

VISIBILITY: HELIACHAL RISING & SETTING 2023

While each planet has its own orb of visibility, a standard 15* orb can be applied for when a planet is moving into invisibility, Heliachal Setting, and re-emerging back into visibility after the Cazimi & Combustion phase, its Heliachal Rise. Dates below show when each planet is 15* from the Sun, applying and separating. Note that the planet may not be actually visible yet at your location, but it will appear around this date.

Mercury D refers to Mercury in direct motion. Mercury Rx refers to Mercury in retrograde motion.

SENSITIVE ZODIACAL DEGREES 2023

Life under Capitalism has a distinct leaning toward time. When using astrology, space, or place, becomes just as important.

I have colour coded each phase change and Full/New Moon + eclipses listed above in this table highlighting specific zodiac degrees. This can be helpful when working with your own chart, noting when planets or points are being activated.
