Barack Obama and his 12th House Hole

I love it when non-astrologers speak so precisely about astrology.

In her book “Becoming,” Michelle Obama gives us great insight into Barack’s 12th house Saturn. From the beginning of their relationship, it was clear to her that he was someone with a very rich inner world, and that this had very specific requirements.

Wherever they lived and travelled, a room or a nook would be carved out for his “Hole”, where he processed, worked through books, newspapers, ideas and had the necessary space to himself to churn through it all, uninterrupted.

Anyone with 12th house planets knows of this notoriously difficult terrain. Anyone with Aquarius Rising is right now getting a pretty clear idea about it. Often called the house of ‘self-undoing,’ there are few interpretations of this area of the sky that would ever make it prime real estate. It’s that house out in the country that’s always for sale. It has an air about it that you can’t quite put your finger on, but when you walk inside you’re very aware that it could swallow you up and no one would think to look for you there. It is mysterious and difficult to grasp.

The 12th house, or 12th sign from the Ascendant, is the last to have risen and therefore is the one with the greatest journey ahead of it. Any planets in this area of the chart were rising when the individual (or event) was being born, having ascended from the deepest, most personal and primal part of the sky into full view, adding extra-extra to its influence in the life.

The 12th house is where planets get to test the waters of expression with the naivety and inexperience of anything young and fresh. It’s new, and deeply uncertain. The depth of vulnerability here can often result in retracting these energies inward, calling forth privacy and self imposed isolation. Sometimes though, these energies are nurtured in family environments and these planets become a great source of power in an individuals life.

The 12th house is also often aligned with secrets and hidden enemies. In the case where these energies are not supported in the early life, part of the self is retracted from view, becoming something hidden and secretive. Pushed down deep enough it becomes repressed and bent out of shape, potentially resulting in either illness or other people representing the very characteristics consciously, or subconsciously, buried.

As Rob Hand says, planets in the 12th house “confine one by working against one’s expression. They undermine one’s ego because they are denied by it.” As with most things in life, astrology is not black and white; the grey areas can encompass a bit of both in alternating measure at different times.

As Barack Obama worked his way through Law school he remained tightly connected to various community initiatives; he allowed his Saturn to work for him. His 12th house Saturn required an outlet that allowed him to be part of the greater whole, of service to those he saw himself reflected in, placing him in situations where he could learn to understand and develop his relationship with authority in an egoless manner.

Establishing physical space where he could study, process and be uninterrupted allowed him what he needed to create internal structure so he could be effectual externally. As Michelle Obama so eloquently says, “For him, the Hole is a kind of sacred high place, where insights are birthed and clarity comes to visit.

With all that heteronormcore tells us about what we should and shouldn’t expect in relationships, people often feel inhibited to ask for space, or to live or sleep separately. 12th house planets, however, demand attention at the inner level. Without this space and time alone projection can become a serious issue. Choosing a partner who is a pilot or a sailor, someone who is gone for long stretches of time can loosen these stressors, or like Michelle and Barack, sometimes it takes time to establish the parameters of what does and doesn’t work. Relationship or not, 12th house placements take yeeeeaaars to understand and unravel.

Barack, I’ve come to understand, is the sort of person who needs a hole, a closed-off little warren where he can read and write undisturbed. It’s like a hatch that opens directly onto the spacious skies of his brain. Time spent there seems to fuel him.

What’s in your 12th house?

Grieving in the surveillance state

Pay your respects.
Grieve your loss.
Let people grieve without intrusion.

Grief is raw and vulnerable wether it’s a bushfire, a basketball player, or a political atrocity.

Writing, “Wait til the end,” to watch someone deeply grieving cry or lose their shit is not cool. It shows how disconnected we are from our own grief and normalises personal intrusion.

The limits of this surveillance culture are on us.

Watch what you watch.

Jupiter in Capricorn rebirths Yoda

There’s been an influx of Yoda memes ever since Jupiter moved into Capricorn, not surprising, really . Yoda is the perfect archetype to show up since we now have 4 planets & a node all getting down to business in Cap…& further shows that you don’t have to ‘believe’ in astrology to be influenced by it 🤷🏼‍♂️

Saturn, Capricorn’s daddy, represents wisdom & ageing, maturation & growth, & the responsibility weaved within the journey. It stands for nothing less than dedication & hard work…all of which take time. Time. It’s our elder, Saturn, whose been there a million times before reminding us as we transition into a new paradigm that you can’t hurry a good thing.

Being the boundary line of our known world it’s faaaaaar out in the solar system, and often the rewards come from time alone, pushing the limits we’ve imposed on ourselves & shedding the aspects of self we’ve outgrown.

Channel your inner Yoda through the upcoming eclipse season, aiming for any difficulties to be transformed to wisdom you can share with others on the path. I like to read stories about people on their death bed, what they regretted & what they cherish, to get clear with Saturn

Bon Voyage, Jupiter.

Jupiter in Sagittarius 2018 – 2019

Jupiter is in the final stage of its gallop through Sagittarius. It has reached the peak. From this standpoint it can envision the road ahead into Capricorn, equipped with the wisdom gained while travelling through the wide terrain of Sagittarius.

Jupiter is classified as a benefic, enhancing whatever it touches. This past year however, it was sometimes difficult to understand the beneficence when Saturn & Pluto over shadowed everything in cranky Capricorn. Thank f*ck Jupiter was in Sag because it took the edge off some of the tension & allowed us to envision the world we want to create when we reach the other side.

Jupiter has been in Sag since Nov 2018. Reflecting back on what this last year has granted you, where did you have growth & learning, travel & expansion that now allows you to view the world through a broader, more encompassing lens, & how did you access optimism through trying times? All of this can be attributed to Jupiter. Now, as the energy calms, how will you gather up those resources and utilise them in a more practical way?

On Dec 2nd, Jupiter will slow down the pace & trot into Capricorn until Dec 2020. It will be an interesting year, to say the least. Capricorn is not an easy, happy go lucky energy, & with both Saturn & Pluto already there, Jupiter won’t be as effective with lifting the mood as it has been in Sag. It’ll be a year to dig deep & utilise those personal resources on the ground in the day to day grind. We’ll all be challenged to mature our relationship to power & to untangle the voices of fear and limitation that keep us bound.

Write yourself a note from this 29* Sagittarius vantage point that you can rely on through the coming year. If you offer Capricorn a tool it’ll learn how to use it…so give yourself your best.

Uranus in Taurus

IMG_3279

Although I haven’t watched it, the “does it spark joy?” question has filtered through. Like anyone listening to these Uranus in Taurus messages, I’m getting down, closer, to that which calls me, holds value & needs to go.

Where ever Taurus lands in your chart, you understand the desire to build roots, have comfort & long lasting material security. Uranus though, has other ideas & is forcing us to renegotiate our relationship to such things.

Taurus wants to possess, hoard & maintain; allow slow change over a long period of time. Uranus wants to disrupt the status quo, abruptly freeing us from that which inhibits. Trying to control something so dynamic in a fixed capacity can only lead to a shuddering of secure foundations.

Being a conduit means you allow things to pass through. Like powerlines transmitting electricity, the cables & the electricity are not one and the same, nor are they’re trying to be. Taurus is the container for the energy of Uranus over the next 7 years; challenging our ideas of what ‘enough’ is, forcing us to identify that which truly brings us joy based on what we value & not relying on what worked in the past. #freshandnew

To be surrounded by less distractions, both inside & out, requires leaning in to trust in a more acute way.

This trip home has walked me down so many memory lanes with friends, places, food & my eternal love: motorbikes! The fact that you physically can’t carry much stuff, that the wind washes you clean of anything stuck, that it’s you (& possibly one other) & the potential offered in an open road. Need I say more?!

This Uranus transit initiated itself last May. It’s underway, & will switch gears again on the next New Moon in Pisces. For those strongly rooted in their Taurean ways, I hope you can find your conduit shape so that you can be lead by the sparks that are illuminating your road forward. If personal earthquakes rumble & you’re aware of a need to control, right there is your diamond mine. Taurus is not interested in scratching the surface, we need to dig a lot deeper. Shedding the material has a deep emotional & spiritual component, too. Don’t deny yourself.

The road is open & all maps are out the window. Where will you go with such freedom?

Shout out to Sullo for lending me her bike & to Jessika Fancy for being numero uno co-pilot.

Consciousness has no hierarchy

We are all these Sunflowers. We all have a physical manifestation that we move through the world with, and yet, there’s also a subtle vibration pouring from each of us at every moment.

THERE IS NO LADDER OF HIERARCHY IN CONSCIOUSNESS.

The psychic airs are so thick and heavy right now. It can feel so hard to push through the fear and sense of impending doom, wherever in the world we are. The more I sit in this heaviness, the more I’m drawn toward understanding consciousness. Not with the mind or intellect, in being.

Uranus in Taurus is offering us just this. Uranus is an agitator, an awakener, forever pushing us toward freedom. In this Taurus case, we’re being given the opportunity to free ourselves from habituation, from the limitation of the body and being tied to material concerns. That doesn’t mean we check out, stop giving a shit, stop wearing clothes and give away all our money (though you can if that’s your jam.)

It means something different for everyone, but the vehicle that gets us there is very simple: listen to your own needs, your own inner dialogue and have boundaries that shield you from being saturated by the outside noise. Make space for your divine sound to pour forth and change this dominant, fear-based narrative.

Taurus gets comfortable. It loves a groove…but grooves become ruts which become trenches that we find hard to dig ourselves out of. We’re all being uprooted. We’re all re-evaluating our worth and what we invest time, energy and money into. It doesn’t make sense that the structures that support us also undermine us. This change is destabilizing and necessary. Look to what you’re clinging to and what’s being challenged to change.

The noise in the world, on social media is SO. LOUD. It doesn’t matter if it’s from the left or the right, red or blue, Liberal – National – Labour – everyone’s yelling. Make space for your Sunflower sound. Plug in and let it out.

💎✨CRYSTALSCOPE✨💎

The thing about the desert is that it holds the memory of the Ocean. The thing about water is that it never forgets. 🌊🏜 💎
No matter when we exist throughout history, all living beings seek shelter and safety. While Aries (the 1st Cardinal sign) is out hunting, fearlessly gathering food, Cancer is creating our home, stoking the hearth fire so that we can all be nourished by togetherness under the same roof. It knows that if we don’t have each other, we will not survive.
💎
In 2018, we may not be setting up home in a cave on the side of a rock, but our needs are no different to those of our ancestors. As social creatures, we all seek to belong, to be nourished, to protect and be protected.
💎
This eclipse on July 12th activates our basic instincts, & in this there is increased potential for projection. There can be the desire to cut coldly that which has rejected us, threatened our survival and undermined our need to belong. The challenge is to sit in any uncomfortableness without reaction or retaliation.
💎
When we say things are cool but they’re eating away at our very need to belong, we undermine ourselves and gaslight those we actually care about. …read the full Crystalscope HERE.

Hermit life

Screen Shot 2018-07-31 at 7.16.48 PM

Hi frenz 👋🏼
Here I am in my hermit cave, smelling the roses & feeling out the shifts & changes in the cosmic weathers. #cantturnitoff 🌀

There’s a lot going on! I’m seeing & feeling the pain that’s present & surfacing for folks, both personally & collectively…& there isn’t one answer or one remedy.
🌪

Good news is: we are amidst great opportunity for change & rearrangement. Bad news is it’s not a sprint race – it’s more like a marathon. Pace yourself, have snacks for the trip, keep hydrated & just. keep. going. No doubt you’re going to fuck things up along the way. Keep offering compassion & accountability in equal doses to yourself & those yr with.
🤜🏼💖🤛🏼

I’m writing in my hermit time, & would also love to hear from you as to what’s going on & what you might like to hear about, astro-post wise.
💫✍🏼

Hit me up with which way the wind is blowing for you & lez walk through this together.
